Upper Mohawk Lake

Date: September 15th, 2020

Elevation: 12,104ft/3,689m

When I first arrived in Breckenridge, I spoke to a bartender about all the hikes i had planned. When I mentioned Mohawk Lake, she told not to just stop at the lower lake, but to continue to Upper Mohawk Lake where the view was astonishing. At only a bit over 3 miles in total, I didn’t mind tacking on the extra mile. But the thing about hiking in Colorado, is that no matter how fit you are, altitude and the lack of oxygen will always remind you that you are still human. This is one tough hike if you are not yet acclimated to the elevation. Luckily, whenever I needed to stop for a while to catch my breath, there was plenty of beautiful landscape to absorb in the meantime.

My first alpine lake

This is the most beautiful end to any hike I’ve ever been on in North America.

As beautiful as this looks, the picture doesn’t do it justice
