As much as I like being alone, human interaction can make nearly every experience better when engaging with the right people. Something that I have learned while traveling solo, is that you are almost forced into interaction with other travelers. Unless you don’t want to have any fun or meet anyone (which I wouldn’t recommend for maintenance of sanity purposes), solo travel is the absolute best way to meet people.
While seemingly fun, traveling with a group of friends could very well lead to you principally interacting with only the people you departed with. It wouldn’t be entirely unfulfilling, but you wouldn’t get the chance to meet other people as easily as you would otherwise. Few people would dare to intrude upon a group of friends who clearly already know each other. Yet, it is rather simple to approach a person sitting by themselves and ask them if they need a hiking buddy. As a solo traveler, I get to hang out with different people every day and that has led to me meeting some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. Travelers already naturally have something in common, and that is: travel. Being that we all already have something to talk about, and experiences to share, makes us almost automatically drawn to each other. Having the chance to share joyful experiences that we’ve all desired to engage in makes every single hike, board game and hilarious encounter unforgettable. I will remember the name of nearly every person I’ve met while traveling, and if for some reason, I can’t remember their names, I will always remember the joyous afternoons, evenings, hikes or adventures we had together.
