The term “crystal-clear” is thrown around a lot to describe the pristineness and clarity of water. But a new word beckons to be created to describe just how pure this lake was. Never in my life have I ever seen such clear water. La Laguna de Apoyo is a lake in the crater of the enormous Apoyo Volcano and is home to the deepest point in Central America. My crew of 3 decided to kayak across the lake to see the forest of monkeys and sloths on the other side. Although only 6 kilometers across, this ended up being a 3-hour endeavor, which ended with us exhausted and grateful that we didn’t get rained on. But, as tough as it was, it added some adventure to an already gorgeous day.
