Lago de los Tempanos

Date: April 7th, 2023

Location: Ushuaia, Argentina

This hike takes you through what has to be one of the prettiest forests in Argentina. Golden-leafed trees, bushes of every hue from burgundy to orange and a layer of snow to add to the beauty. This however was my first time hiking in a snowstorm. Being in the forest offered a buffer for the wind, but once I left the forest and got into the valley leading up to the lake, the snow and wind were relentless. No complaints though, because it just added to the adventure.

The coldest I’ve ever been during a hike.

Colors of Ushuaia

After seeing the oranges, reds and yellows of this landscape, I completely understand why this land is called Tierra del Fuego: ‘Land of Fire’.

The morning of…

This was the view near the beginning of the trail, before the mud, snow and wind.

Laguna Encantada

After the hike to the initial lake, we decided to take another hike up to this lake nearby. While not as snowy or windy, it still was extremely cold. Still pretty though.
